1994 – 2000: Southwest ATCSR (Applied Technology Center Service Region)
July 1, 2000: HB261: Southwest Applied Technology Center was created.
June 2001: HB1003: Created the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT). Took effect September 1, 2001. Southwest Applied Technology College became one of eight campuses of UCAT.
2009: HB15: Changed the governance from the Utah State Board of Regents to the Utah College of Applied Technology Board of Trustees.
2017: SB238: Renamed college to Southwest Technical College. Designates each Technical College as bodies politic and corporate 53B-2-101(1).
2018: HB300: Amended the membership of the Technical College Board of Directors and enacts provisions related to the Higher Education Strategic Planning Commission.
2020: SB111: Change of higher education structure and governance that merged the Utah System of Higher Education and the Utah System of Technical Colleges Planning Commission.
2021: Southwest Technical College opens the Cedar City Business & Innovation Center.
Southwest Technical College (Southwest Tech) is one of eight technical colleges in the Utah System of Higher Education. Its service region encompasses over 15,000 square miles of Beaver, Garfield, Iron, and Kane counties.
Southwest Tech’s Main Campus consists of two buildings in Cedar City, Utah: the Health Professions & Trades Building (757 W 800 S) and the Automotive and Technology Building (510 W 800 S).
All programs offered at Southwest Tech are available at the Main Campus. This Main Campus also houses the Cedar City Innovation Center, a business launch hub that gives entrepreneurs access to guidance, mentorship, potential funding, a maker space, and more.
Through strong partnerships, innovative programming, and a deep commitment to student success, Southwest Technical College continues to expand access to hands-on education throughout Southwest Utah.
